Sachs

Born in Lithuania in 1888, Mary first arrived to the United States in 1892. She arrived in Harrisburg in 1907, at the age of 19. While much of a early career was spent in factories and other low-wage positions, Sachs embodies a "rags to riches" story where she prospers her own business empire.

Outside of her business, she had many personal interests, often opening her home to civic leaders, educators, diplomats, and those in fashion. Sachs was generous by nature, giving to philanthropic organizations and those in need. Following her death in 1960, her wealth continues to be distributed to individuals in need through scholarships, as well as to local organisations within the Harrisburg area.
