Pauline Levinsohn
Pauline Levinsohn was born in modern day Latvia and migrated to the United States of the age of 14. She moved to Harrisburg in 1910, Harrisburg's Lithuanian- Jewish population was growing, and she helped expand exponentially. She helped found the Harrisburg chapter of Hadassah and the Beth El Temple. Levinsohn made many contributions to her community, also founding the Jewish Aide Society, which assisted with the medical, fuel, and food bills of the needy. The Aide Society also cared for soldiers during World War II. Finally, she headed the YWHA segment of the board of the Jewish Community Centre for seven years. A community hero in Harrisburg, she passed away at age 68.
